INDUSTRY NEWS: Coronavirus Update.
Thursday, 6th February 2020
Dear all respective customers,
The situation in China regarding the Coronavirus is evolving quickly, please see below a summary of development’s in the last 48 hours.
Chinese Holidays have been extended to:
- 10/02 AM for Shanghai, Chongqing, Zhe Jiang Province, Jiang Su Province, Guang Dong province, Fu jian Province
- 14/02 AM for Hu Bei Province
- 03/02 AM for all other provinces
Other provinces and cities are likely to do the same in certain areas.
British Airways confirmed the suspension of all flights to and from mainland China. Several other airlines including United Airlines, Indonesia’s Lion Air and Russia’s Ural Airlines have taken similar action. Further airlines have confirmed they will be reducing services to and from China. As a result, we expect imminent disruption in shipments to-and-from China as more airlines cancel flights.
We are monitoring the evolving situation daily and as such recommend you liaise closely with your partners, customers and suppliers abroad to identify any risks to your supply chain.
The situation is likely to become more challenging when the shipping lines take similar measures. It is anticipated that once the situation is under control and production recommences, there will be a significant peak in demand for movement of freight by all modes. We fully expect there to be delays and space issues over the coming weeks as the situation in China intensifies.
We are in close communications with our carriers and will share with you critical information as the situation evolves.
